A stunning exhibition follows on the heals of the success of Avengers: Endgame

After Avengers: Endgame, the epic conclusion that tore through box office records, becoming the highest grossing film of all time, comes a stunning exhibition set to open in the Telus World of Science Edmonton (TWOSE) on October 19, 2019, running until February 17, 2020.
Avengers: Endgame pulled at my heart strings, leaving me wanting more from the characters that I’d come to love. It’s a world of superheroes, jumping off the pages of Stan Lee’s artfully constructed comics, and into the world of dreamers, stargazers, and your everyday heroes. SC Exhibitions is bringing their exhibit, Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes, to the Edmonton stage. Since it is the exhibit’s premiere in the Canadian market, President and CEO of TWOSE, Alan Nursall relishes in the opportunity, declaring, “it’s important for Edmontonians to understand that their science centre is a gateway to the world. Through the travelling exhibit, we want to bring the very best to Edmonton.”
Visitors can expect to find life-sized characters in action, with stunning scenes from both the movie world and the comic world that is sure to attract the social media enthusiast. The exhibition also feature over 300 artifacts, including the original art of the comic books, concept drawings from the artists who first designed them, and movie props taken directly from the scenes of some of the most popular marvel movies, like Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and Captain America’s shield.
When asked what he is most excited about, Nursall says, “learning about the comic books. The films too, but the comic books are the root of the Marvel universe.”
The exhibit is not only a place to sight-see, but also a place to interact with their beloved characters. Travel through Doctor Strange’s mirror dimension, or digitally transform into Iron Man; those are just a few of the features guests can partake in.
There is so much to see in the exhibit, but open your ears and there’s a lot to hear too. Acclaimed composer Lorne Balfe has created the soundscape to tie the wonders together. Balfe has composed music for Terminator Genisys, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Penguins of Madagascar, amongst many other different mediums and genres, so you can expect to hear a stunning soundtrack.
With 2018 marking the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and 2019 marking the 80th anniversary of the Marvel comics, SC Exhibitions decided to dedicate a new show to this iconic universe, bringing fans behind the scenes like never before. The exhibition has already found success in its two previous showings, attracting 370,000 visitors at the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) in Seattle, and 300,000 at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Nursall considers the version shown in Edmonton is closer to the one found in Philadelphia, but believes there are some changes and new artifacts for Edmontonians to enjoy. It’s a hit for the whole range of generations, from young to old, new fans to the super fan, comic book lovers to movie buffs. There’s a place for everyone to enjoy.
SC Exhibitions have attributed Benjamin Sanders as the lead curator of the exhibit. He has joined forces with Marvel Entertainment, and MoPOP curators, Brooks Peck and Jacob McMurray. In order to stay true to the stories, they have collaborated with Matthew J. Smith and Randy Duncan, both university professors who are experts in the comic book field. Finally, Anne Nocenti and Danny Fingeroth, both comic book writers and editors for Marvel Comics, round off the group. Each member is devoted to ensuring the authenticity and success of this exhibit.
By purchasing a ticket to the Marvel exhibit ($35.95 for adults), you get access to all the other exhibits the science centre has to offer. If the show is anything like its predecessors, then it is sure to capture the hearts of Edmontonians.
